A critical discourse study of the portrayal of immigrants as non-citizens in a sample from the Spanish press

This study intends to contribute critical discourse analysis (CDA) by observing how the of press represents immigrants. The objective this paper is observe main linguistic characteristics used portray sub-Saharan immigrants as non-citizens, in a sample from Spanish press. corpus consists news items published digital editions newspapers El País and ABC 1 January 2015 31 December 2019. discursive analysed representation non-citizens are lexis, use figures passive voice. methodology combines qualitative quantitative data.
 will show that tends represent negative way, reproduce dichotomy ‘we-they’ ‘the other’. findings indicate recurrent certain words refer immigrants, evoke sense invasion them individuals do not favour integration but on contrary exclusion society, which thus promotes non-citizenship.
